10 Best Music Videos Of 2016

6. Sigur Rós - Óveður

You ever sit down to a music video and think to yourself: I want to be disturbed. Genuinely and unambiguously unnerved. No? Just me? Oh...

Seriously though, don't watch the video for Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros's single Óveður unless you want to feel like you're being sucked into a black hole. Though the band is known in the mainstream for happier, more hopeful material like the wonderfully uplifting Hoppipolla, they've never shied away from darker, more melancholic stuff.

Óveður is exactly that. The video begins with a homeless women waking up then screaming in anguish, which sets the tone for things to come. She then begins dancing strangely, her leaps and flailing movements rendered an eerie dance by slow motion. It isn't until she makes it to a bar, however, that things really get unsettling. There, she sees all sorts of horrors: a shirtless elderly man flanked by two young girls (who subsequently begin drawing on his stomach), a rotating, bloody eyeball, various people dining on flesh, shots of stark nudity and a person spitting out their own teeth.

All of this is tied together by extreme close-ups of regular human beings, people who the viewer can't help but see as ugly, terrifying monsters.
