10 Best Music Videos Of The 2000's

3. Stan - Eminem

When looking at the entirety of Eminem's catalog, "Stan" is one of the most awe-inspiring moments of his entire career. While Em had been known to indulge in dark material from time to time, the story behind "Stan" seemed to feel way more realistic than anything else he had touched.

The music video is so much a part of the song that it seems to be an intrinsic part of the listening experience. Centered around an obsessed fan, the video tells the heartbreaking story of what happens when the adulation of your favorite celebrity goes way too far. The look on Stan's face when writing the letters to Slim are so demented and pained that you almost sympathize with this deranged man trying to get any bit of attention from his idol.

It's also interesting how the chilling voice of Dido on the album cut has been used to illustrate the voice of Stan's girlfriend, who is subsequently kidnapped and killed just for Stan to get some rise out of Slim after being ignored for so long. When most rap artists were concerned with looking dangerous in the club or on the street, "Stan" was one of the most cinematic depictions of what happens when you let one person consume your entire life.
