10 Best Music Videos Of The 2000's

2. Welcome To The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance

On their sophomore album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, My Chemical Romance proved to be masters of the music video format, from their high school movie scenario on "I'm Not Okay" to the Saving Private Ryan pastiche of "The Ghost Of You." After the band donned matching black military uniforms though, things began to turn a corner.

Though "Welcome to the Black Parade" was not the beginning of the band's rock opera masterpiece, the video did set the stage for the dark tale that would be unfolding. As our protagonist is lying in his hospital bed, he starts to remember the faint wisps of a parade he saw when he was little. With the music building louder and louder, the man's eyes are quickly dawned with black makeup, as he prepares to knock upon death's door.

Instead of being a long slow descent into the unknown, the video shows My Chemical Romance as your faithful guides who will lead you through the cold embrace of death. From the skeletal structures to the dour colors on display, this video welcomes you to join in on a journey through your own mortality. It won't all be joyous, but you'd be lying if you aren't feeling it every step of the way.
