10 Best Nu-Metal Albums Of The 00s
7. Mudvayne - LD50 (2000)
Mudvayne’s primary aim within the nu-metal movement was to do things just a little bit differently than everyone else. The bands debut album LD50 throws caution to the wind against the old cliche that nu-metal songwriting and structure went out the window in its peak. The band managed to produced an album full-to-the-brim with sonic experimentation and an innovative approach that can’t really be appreciated by the casual listener.
The band present a more technical structure to their songs than other nu-metal bands, offering a more complex listening experience. Each song on the album features a multiplex of experimental riffery and ear-shaking slap bass, with the best example of this housed in the disturbingly dark Internal Primates Forever.
Mudvayne may have sat in Slipknot’s shadow due to their somewhat similar early-days appearance, but the band’s LD50 album should receive the credit it deserves. Using atypical tones and over-exaggerated bass riffs, the album steps away from the somewhat corny corner the genre was heading into, hitting all aspects of the human psyche over the aggression-filled 58 minute trip.
