10 Best Nu-Metal Albums Of The 00s
6. Mushroomhead - XX (2001)
XX was released in the noughties, but was in essence a remix of the classic songs off their three little-known self-released albums. The project allowed Mushroomhead to pick out its most suiting candidates, and polish them for a generation in full swing of nu-metal. The songs featured are a re-hash of their self-titled release, Superbuick and M3.
As a band that presented themselves in the same light as Slipknot, they were always destined to fall behind the behemoth nine from Iowa - what set them apart can only be appreciated by true fans. The best way to understand the underlying musical masterpiece is to listen to the re-hashed ‘best bits’ of the original three albums which gives any listener a booster right into Mushroom-mania.
The eclective selection of songs reach out to the furthest points of nu-metal, introducing orchestral, keyboard and sample-based stylings paired with a savage twin-frontman set up.
The band created an atmospheric experience with XX, with a haunting undertone to their work. The outspoken Bwomp and Solitaire Unravelling are the go-to songs on this album to prove the band are so much more than Slipknot impersonators, and really highlight the unique spin the band put on the nu-metal scene.
