10 Best Nu-Metal Albums Of The 00s
5. Korn - Untouchables (2002)
The voice of a lost generation leads the peak of nu-metal before the genre pretty much disappeared overnight. The father’s of nu-metal managed to uphold their roots while showing a more mature version of the band - far from Korny. That being said, the album still holds Jonathan Davis’ pent up anger and rage at the oft-undefined antagonist.
Here To Stay opens the album with such overpowering distortion the tune is borderline white noise, which is clearly deliberate - drown out the negative hatred with the medium of sonic aggression.
Untouchables revolves around self-doubt and internal struggles, exploring some of the most relatable lyrics the band has ever written. The album showcases a more rounded and refined Korn, yet still relevant enough to empower the droves of metal-heads that ‘need’ this music.
The album was released right at the end of the nu-metal craze and serves no coincidence that this was Korn’s final pure nu-metal effort, sadly leaving the movement to fade away. The nu-metal scene could be seen as coming full circle with Untouchables, as the same iconic band that kicked it all off produced one of the last great albums of the genre.
