It would be the album that saved Bruce's career. Released in 1975, Born To Run not only gave Springsteen the second chance he needed, but captured the 70's and turned it on its head. Thunder Road would be the track to introduce the album and it does a breathtaking job.

Ranked the 86th best song of all time by Rolling Stone, it's a nostalgic love song about a girl named Mary and her boyfriend 'trying to make it real'. Springsteen once said the quiet piano and harmonica introduction were actually meant as an intro the album as a whole.

The lyrics are a masterpiece; these are how lyrics should be written. It's something to be at a Springsteen concert and have every fan sing every word back to The Boss word perfect. 'The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways/ Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays'. Stunning work, Bruce.
