The multi-instrumentalist had found success as the bassist in the Jeff Beck Group before forming the Faces alongside Rod Stewart - but it was his arrival in the Rolling Stones that perhaps truly cemented his standing as a musician.

He was drafted in initially as a touring replacement for Mick Taylor in 1975 but following the dissolution of the Faces, became a full-time member, one who - as the band have progressed through the years - has proved to be a key part of the group's musical bedrock underneath Keith Richards' more expressive stylings.
