10 Best Rock Albums Of The 2000s

2. Kid A - Radiohead

The end of the 90's was truly a great time for Radiohead on a professional level. After a decade playing alt-rock, the band had created their undisputed masterpiece with Ok Computer, which would go on to be heralded as one of the greatest albums of all time. So, why was the band having issues?

After the ensuing tour for Ok Computer, the band were fed up with the kind of music they were playing. Even though the band was grateful for the praise, the attention that was put on the members (especially Thom Yorke) made them desensitized with the whole process of music.

When they entered the studio, Yorke was determined to make a record centered around rhythm rather than melody. The entire project came together with tape loops, electronic ambience, and lyrics cut together in random orders. However, the results were absolutely genius, as the record took on a disquieting atmosphere and almost synthetic sounding presentation. Upon release, Kid A stood as one of the boldest lines in the sand an alt-rock band had made at the time. This was the point where the band refused to become the next stadium rock band and started making music on their own terms. When the tracks are this good though, it's hard not to go along for the ride.
