10 Best Rock Duos Of All Time

9. No Age

No Age are a band that have been on a 15 year journey, taking their sound from all out aggression to tunefully abrasive. The Californian two piece are a band built to be listened to at as high a volume as you dare to chance. They’re certainly a lo fi proposition and proud of it, but their blown out sound is full of hidden melody and occasionally gorgeous moments.

They’ve become increasingly accessible as they’ve gone on, but have only tempered their sound to a degree, still on the “noise” end of noise rock. Their mid-period work provides perhaps the best starting point. Second album Everything In Between has maybe their prettiest song, the mournful and lovely “Glitter”, as well as the overwhelmingly energetic “Fever Dreaming”.

A 2018 move to Drag City Records has seen band members Randy Randall and Dean Allen Spunt slow down just a little, and they’re radio friendlier now than they’ve ever been, but that’s all relative. By no means have No Age gone soft, we’re just made to look a little less hard for the tunes on their newer stuff.
