10 Best Rock Duos Of All Time

8. Simon & Garfunkel

Perhaps the most iconic duo in rock, Simon & Garfunkel codified much of what we expect from any good partnership. Clearly delineated roles - Simon the writer, Garfunkel the angelic singer; a willingness to experiment; and a healthy amount of loathing. The pair burned brightly, quickly releasing their catalogue which ranged from gentle folk to bizarre proto-sampling, and remain hugely influential to this day.

Their five albums were released during turbulent times in the USA, and the material reflects the nation’s turmoil as well as any band of the era. From class conflict (“Richard Corey”) to youthful alienation (“America”) and even their interpersonal relationships (“The Only Living Boy In New York”), their music remains a key soundtrack for anything ‘60s related.

The pair went on to solo careers of varying quality, and while they’ve reconvened for somewhat tense gigs a few times, new music has been strictly off the menu. It’s probably for the best - this is as good a time capsule as you could imagine.
