10 Best Rock Duos Of All Time

7. Japandroids

If you’re not familiar with Japandroids, you may not be aware of just how big a wall of noise two mild-mannered Canadian dudes can produce. Brian King and David Prowse play guitar and drums respectively, with both taking vocal duties. Between them, they have become huge news on the indie scene, bringing a classic rock sound with a distinctly modern twist to increasingly large venues across the world.

If you’re a fan of ‘80s punk or ‘70s stadium rock, you need to be listening to Japandroids. Their first album, 2009’s Post-Nothing, sets out the stall, combining huge, crunching riffs on "Crazy/Forever" with the punk squawl of “The Boys Are Leaving Town” and grandstanding emo-metal closer “I Quit Girls”.

They added more of each element - art and size - to their follow up, Celebration Rock, one of the year’s most acclaimed albums, and cemented themselves as the hardest working duo in punky stadium rock, clocking up hundreds of gigs across a world tour.

Their 2020 live album, released at the start of the pandemic, gives fans the best idea of what you want from Japandroids - brilliantly played, but barely in control, and bigger than big. One to look out for when they hit the road next.
