10 Best Rock Music Album Closers Of The 2000s

7. My Body Is A Cage - Arcade Fire (Neon Bible)

Though some diehard rock fans may hate it with a burning passion, indie rock is a huge and valuable part of the genre's history.

It really gained a foothold in American culture in the late 2000s, thanks to a series of albums released by some of the biggest bands of the day. One of them was Neon Bible; the second record from indie rock legends, Arcade Fire.

The Canadian outfit, known for their elaborate stage shows featuring multiple instrument swaps, showed everyone that their brand of rock was commercially viable. Their commitment to crafting a well-paced album is clear when you take a look at what Neon Bible ended with.

My Body Is a Cage starts off quite and subdued, before exploding into a semi-gospel musical maelstrom. The subject matter is self-evident - the protagonist is singing about feeling trapped in himself - and this large theme is backed by a similarly humongous soundscape.

The song has appeared in numerous TV shows, including the Season One finale of Euphoria, and even got covered by Peter Gabriel on his 2010 album Scratch My Back.

If Big Pete approves of a song, then it has to be good.
