10 Best Rock Music Album Closers Of The 2010s

6. Better Strangers - Royal Blood (Royal Blood)

British duo Royal Blood presented one of the best debut albums of the entire decade with 2014's... Royal Blood.

They're better at writing songs than they are at naming albums, promise.

Despite having just a drumkit and a distorted bass guitar to play with, the band created a varied and interesting record where every song had its own distinct identity. The crowning example of this is the record's final track, Better Strangers.

It sounds totally different to everything else from the very start. Whilst the other tracks are fast-paced and busy, this one is slow and unafraid to leave gaps in the music. This allows it to crawl forward in a sinister fashion, matching the dark subject matter of the lyrics.

Better Strangers' positioning means that it doesn't interfere with the album's flow. It also offers a glimpse at the band's future, which would see them continue to diversify their output.

On top of all that, it's just a great song! Well-played, well-sung, well-written, it's all that and more!

The final track on a superb first album, Better Strangers tied a neat little bow on an outstanding package.
