10 Best Rock Music Album Covers Of The 2020s So Far

6. I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute To The Velvet Underground & Nico - Various Artists

What's this? A compilation album? Surely this cannot be! Hold your horses, everyone, there's a very good explanation for this.

In September 2021, an album was released to celebrate one of the most acclaimed and famous rock records of all time.

The Velvet Underground & Nico is regarded as a masterpiece these days, even if initial reviews were a tad harsh, and artists such as St. Vincent, Sharon Von Etten, Michael Stipe, and Iggy Pop got together to re-record it in full for this very special album.

Andy Warhol famously contributed the painting of the banana that adorned the front of the original. That iconic image was inverted for this tribute, as the banana was made reflective and set against a bright yellow background.

This was clearly designed to play on the album's title, which is also a song on the record. It's a genius treatment, one that's still new without diverging too far from the original. Whilst it was never going to top Warhol's work, the cover for I'll Be Your Mirror pays tribute to it in an inventive way.
