10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2000s

8. Meinn Herz Brennt - Mutter (Rammstein)

The Kaisers of German industrial metal, Rammstein really reached their potential in the 2000s.

When the decade was over, many publications were calling their 2001 album Mutter one of the best metal releases from the past ten years. With songs like Feuer frei!, Sonne, and Ich will on it, it's hard to argue against that judgement.

Another monster track on Mutter is the one that starts it all; Meinn Herz brennt, which translates into English as "My heart burns".

But don't go thinking this is a love song. It's actually about nightmares and the terror felt when trapped in one. Even if you don't speak the language, Rammstein do a fantastic job in conveying this frightening message via their music.

The song see-saws between subdued and manic. The verses are soft and welcoming, drawing listeners in before unleashing heavy choruses; like how a nightmare begins as a dream.

In 2012, 11 years after it was first heard, Meinn Herz brennt finally got released as a single to promote an upcoming collection of music videos. It may have come a decade late, but this great song was now getting the attention it deserved.
