10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2010s
5. Ghost - Slash Ft. Ian Astbury (Slash)
After leaving Guns N' Roses following serious creative disputes with the other members (*cough* Axl Rose *cough*), Slash took his top hat and kicked around various other bands for a bit.
He formed Slash's Snakepit, joined the supergroup Velvet Revolver, and then finally decided to go it alone in 2010. Well, he sort of went it alone.
For his debut "solo" record, Slash recruited some of the biggest names in music, rock or otherwise. Alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Kid Rock, and Iggy Pop, Slash also performed tracks with Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Fergie.
The Fergie song is good. The Levine one, not so much.
The opening song on Slash (that's the name of the album) was recorded with Ian Astbury of The Cult. It showcases the guitarist at his riff-writing best, as the opening hook wouldn't have felt out of place on any classic Guns N' Roses track.
Astbury brings a gravelly, mature tone to his vocal delivery, whilst still being technically gifted enough to perform competently.
Ghost feels like its been around for way longer than it actually has, thanks to this perfect collaboration from two classic rock veterans.
