10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2020s So Far

7. Heat Above - The Battle At Garden’s Gate (Greta Van Fleet)

Led Zeppelin sound-a-likes and collection of beautiful men, Greta Van Fleet only got round to recording their first album in 2018, despite being on the radar much earlier.

In 2021, the band put out their second release, The Battle at Garden's Gate, which sounds like a euphemism for when the dog attacks the postman. Though it didn't sell quite as well as its predecessor, it still performed nicely, cracking the top ten in both the US and the UK.

The Battle at Garden's Gate begins with the trumpet blast of Heat Above, written by singer Josh Kiszka about different cultures all seeking the same salvation.

With a distinctly throwback feel to it, Heat Above is perfect for fans of classic rock. Kiszka's voice is immaculate, hitting impossibly high notes without a hint of struggle, as the triumphant-sounding music swells around him.

This whole album is a love letter to a previous age of rock music, and the opening sentence does a great job in setting the tone.
