10 Best Rock Music Albums Under Half An Hour Long
1. Reign In Blood - Slayer
It doesn't quite feel right, but Slayer's seminal 1986 album Reign in Blood is all over in the time it takes to watch an episode of an episode of Friends.
Produced by the legendary Rick Rubin of Def Jam Recordings, Reign in Blood not only established 1986 as the greatest year for thrash ever, but it also put Slayer on a pedestal that they are still perched upon today. It's widely regarded as one of the best metal albums ever recorded, thanks to the double whammy of opening song Angel of Death and closing song Raining Blood.
These are by far the record's longest tracks; Angel of Death is 4:51, whilst Raining Blood is 4:14. As for everything else, only one other song dares stick its head above three minutes.
Slayer getting a complete, full-sounding album out of just 28 minutes and 55 seconds is remarkable.
Compare this to the other big thrash albums that year, Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? by Megadeth (36:12) and Metallica's Master of Puppets (54:47), and you get an idea of how savvy the team behind this record was at making the most out of their minutes.
