10 Best Rock Music Collaborations Of The 1980s

3. The Travelling Wilburys - Handle With Care

Whilst not a collaboration in the traditional sense, this '80s supergroup was just too stacked to be overlooked.

In 1988, ex-Beatle George Harrison was told to come up with a B-side for one of his singles. He met with Geoff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra and asked him for his help on the track.

Legendary rock 'n' roll singer Roy Orbison was also there, so he got roped into the project too. Harrison then invited Tom Petty along, and the whole thing was recorded at Bob Dylan's home studio.

The end result was a song called Handle with Care, which was way too good to be shoved onto some B-side. Thus, the Traveling Wilburys were born.

The five legends got together again and recorded a full album under the pretence of a band of travelling musical brothers. Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 was a major hit and inspired the band to record more music together.

Well, sort of. Orbison sadly died about two months after the record came out, which obviously put a stop to any more involvement from him. Still, at least he made it onto the first album.
