10 Best Rock Songs Of The 2020s (So Far)

7. Happy - Sports Team

Sports Team are making indie music fun again. They've been releasing singles for the last few years and have slowly built an audience with tracks like Kutcher. With the release of their first studio album, Dee Down Happy, fans finally got an insight into what a more focused body of work mind sound like.

The band draws from indie bands of the past and there's nothing particularly innovative about their sound, but the enigmatic charisma of frontman Alex Rice makes them one of the more entertaining bands currently on the gig circuit.

There's an innate poshness to these guys, but it all adds to their bumbling, slightly awkward charm. Rice flounders about like a current day Mick Jagger, with less sex appeal, but just as much conviction. You get the sense they're playing up to the silliness of it all.

For a bunch of well to do ex-Cambridge University students, they have a strange fascination with middle and working class culture. Most of their lyrics revolve around a romanticised idea of Middle-England. They have an obsession with all things '90s and all this English, but it serves as the perfect storm to create easy listening, slightly ridiculous and very enjoyable music.

Before engrossing myself in the written word, I spent several years in the TV and film industry. During this time I became proficient at picking things up, moving things and putting things down again.
