10 Best Rock Songs Of The 2020s (So Far)
2. U&ME - Alt-J
The recent single drop by the ever weird and ever engaging alt-J, has again, left fans hotly anticipating their new album. Although their last record was somewhat disjointed, and lacking in overall flow, it still contained enough interesting sounds to demonstrate these experimental music makers weren't finished.
They're a band with such a distinctive sound that you can identify one of their tracks within the first half millisecond. U&ME is no different. With soothing bass lines and a simple repeated guitar hook, it's hard not to sink into your environment once you hear it. You've got Joe Newman doing his weird vocal thing, augmented with the usual choral choir melodies, but the sounds still hasn't worn thin. Despite the slow tempo and laid back feeling of this tune, it subtly builds in momentum.
You might have thought you were done with this band, but once again, they've found a way to draw you back into their wonderfully experimental sound. After hearing this single you'll be revisiting their previous hits and cursing yourself for not splashing out on a thicker sound system.
