10 Best Sequel Songs In Rock

9. 10,000 Days - Tool

Tool have definitely made a name for themselves as one of the more intelligent metal acts to come out of the '90s. Hell, the amount of counting that you have to do to fully get through a song like Schism practically warrants its own college course unto itself. Given the long trips we were given across Lateralus, it was only a matter of time before they went into symphonic territory.

While 10,000 Days does still fit pretty snuggly in the Tool formula with songs like Vicarious and the Pot, the best parts of this album is where they start to stretch out the storylines of their tracks across different songs. Though many might want to point out the weird drug trip outside Area 51 on the Rosetta Stoned suite, the real emotion behind these guys comes front and center on the Wings for Marie suite.

With the first Wings for Marie giving us the context of frontman Maynard James Keenan losing his mother, the title track is where the gut-punch comes in. For the next 11 minutes, we hear Maynard spend the duration of the track slowly grieving, as he goes from frustration and confusion to moving on after losing one of the most important people in his life. Even though these guys are known for their eccentric sense of humor, this is the one Tool track you may just need the tissues for.
