10 Best Songs By The 1975
7. Lostmyhead – I Like It When You Sleep… (2016)
I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It is a very cheesy and slightly pretentious album title. But with the possible exception of A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, it’s the best record the band have ever produced.
The album excels at immersing the listener with its rich, ambient-inspired atmosphere. ‘Lostmyhead’ is the best example of this, and feels like a sequel to some of the interludes on the band’s third EP – Music for Cars. The song is perfect for late-night walks or sitting on a rooftop and soaking in a cityscape.
Despite not being a single, ‘Lostmyhead’ is often played live and provides the audience with some downtime – a chance to relax and let the music wash over them. Even the more explosive ending maintains a sense of detachment.
And though it’s almost entirely an instrumental, ‘Lostmyhead’ still carries plenty of emotional resonance and depth. If you haven’t heard this more obscure tune from The 1975, you’re seriously missing out.
