10 Best Songs By The Who

7. Behind Blue Eyes - Who's Next

A ballad about letting go of one's anger and confronting the rage within, Behind Blue Eyes shows just how well Pete Townshend's lyrics can be channelled through Roger Daltrey, leading to a heavily emotive ballad, and a stand-out track on the album it was included on.

As well as this, the song is one of many tracks that was originally intended to be a part of the Lifehouse Project (more on that later). Although the band excels at conveying the raw emotion from the slower sections, they are more than able to kick it up a notch halfway through the track.

Switching from light acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies to classic rock 'n' roll, before switching back again, this track displays two different sides of The Who, the band that can captivate an audience with softer ballads, and the band that can tear the roof off when needed.
