10 Best Songs Under 2 Mins
9. Parachutes - Coldplay
Length: 0:46
Coldplay have pretty much turned into a machine of hitmakers ever since they broke onto the scene with "Yellow." For as many experimental moments that the band has, usually the song ends up turning into a singalong that you can loop on repeat for about 3 minutes. You really don't need much more than 3-4 minutes when it comes to Coldplay tunes, but "Parachutes" goes too far in the opposite direction.
Using only an acoustic guitar, the title track of the band's first album acts as somewhat of an interlude track between some of the other radio-friendly cuts like "Trouble" and "Shiver," but its role goes a lot deeper than just being a smooth transition. As far as songwriting goes, this has all the trappings you would want in a Coldplay song, from the lovelorn lyrics from Chris Martin to the gentle chord progression that takes you from one phrase to the next.
The only real problem of the song would be that it's too short, but then again, any additional material might end up hurting the song in the long run. Coldplay may have gotten a lot of flak for riffing on Britpop cliches, but this miniscule piece of beauty is something only they can pull off.
