10 Best The 1975 Songs Ranked

9. Chocolate

For many of us, this is where it all started. It is highly likely any fan of The 1975 who got hooked in around the time of their self-titled first album was first exposed to this song (or alternatively, Girls or Sex). Instantly memorable, catchy and perfectly capturing the aesthetic of their first album. The lyrics are simple but iconic; "Where we go, nobody knows, with guns hidden under our petticoats."

The entire song, from start to finish, is ludicrously singable, and is the sort of tune that gets in your head for days. To the point that you will even start to get irritated at yourself singing it over and over again. Don’t worry, embrace it.

Perhaps only equalled by Robbers and Somebody Else, Chocolate is surely the foursome's most anthemic offering. Palm-muted arpeggios compliment the rhythmic quality of the vocals, with a strong rhythm section locked in throughout.

It may not be the best 1975 song in terms of the complexity of the music, beauty of melody or profundity, but it is an undeniably fun mission statement for the bands first album.
