10 Best Third Albums In Rock And Metal History

3. Raw Power - The Stooges

Before he was owning parrots and selling car insurance, Iggy Pop was the shirtless frontman of punk pioneers The Stooges.

After taking a brief hiatus following the release of their first two albums, Iggy and the Stooges reconvened to release Raw Power in 1973. And thank heavens they did, because Raw Power is pure goodness.

With a little help from David Bowie, who mixed the record, The Stooges blew everyone away with their uncompromising sound and unbridled fury.

Particular praise was levelled at new guitarist, James Williamson, who helped the turn the band away from groove and on to a harder rock sound. Williamson has since been credited with inspiring the likes of Johnny Marr, Kurt Cobain, and The Sex Pistols.

Raw Power is also the album that launched Iggy's solo career, as he would leave the group and go it alone just three years later.

The roots of punk music are laid bare for all to see in Raw Power and it's not hard to see why the genre became so popular in the years following its release.

For helping to shape one of the most important sub-genres in rock history, this album had to be included on our list.
