10 Best Twenty One Pilots Songs

1. Car Radio – Vessel (2013)

The fifth track on Vessel is a bizarre tune. The song addresses the time when Joseph’s car radio was stolen and how he was then forced to sit in silence and ponder his life without music to distract him.

Granted, this is an unusual premise. But thanks to Joseph’s vocal delivery and insightful lyrics, the song avoids being cheesy or cliché. Such lyrics are accompanied by a simple chord progression and some heavy drums from Dun which are particularly striking during the instrumental break in the first half.

The song later transitions into an electronic, dance-inspired section that’s incredibly catchy just on its own. But Joseph then adds some screams into the mix that don’t feel out of place at all. Indeed, it’s hard to put into words just how strange and powerful this climax is without actually listening to it.

Surprisingly, ‘Car Radio’ is one of the band’s most popular tunes, yet on paper, it shouldn’t work at all. It has an odd subject matter and it mixes genres that don’t normally work together. Somehow, Joseph and Dun managed to pull it off and create one of the most unforgettable songs of the last decade.
