10 Best Twenty One Pilots Songs
2. Kitchen Sink – Regional At Best/Vessel (2011/2013)
‘Kitchen Sink’ was originally released on the band’s second album – Regional at Best. However, most people heard this song as a bonus track with the release of Vessel in 2013.
‘Kitchen Sink’ is one of the most sorrowful tunes Joseph has ever penned. The lyrics deal with isolation, loneliness, the struggles of creativity, and trying to find purpose in life.
The various piano melodies complement these emotional themes, and though the drums from Dun don’t have the weight of some of the band’s more recent material, the subtler percussion is perfect for the sombre tone of the track. After a terrific verse from Zack Joseph (Tyler’s brother), the song ends with a soaring finale brimming with emotional vocal lines that frequently morph into screams.
This is another Twenty Pilots song that isn’t really ideal for first-time listeners. For those more familiar with the band’s experimentation, however, ‘Kitchen Sink’ stands out as one of their riskiest and most impressive tunes.
