10 Best UK Albums Of 2019

6. Charli XCX - Charli

Charli XCX is a walking advert for just how creative you can get with pop music. For years now she has been fine tuning her sound made up of combining pop song structures with shimmering, metallic and pulsating instrumentals. Pop 2 was most likely the closest indicator as to what we could expect from her next album, but Charli exceeded all expectations.

The first thing that that catches your eye is the insanely strong feature list of the album. Christine and The Queens. Lizzo. Haim. Troye Sivan. Cupcakke. Her pull in the music industry is incomparable, probably helped by the fact that she has an immense talent for writing huge pop hits for other artists.

Gone is one of the very best songs of the year, with Charli linking up with Christine and The Queens to make one of the most danceable and catchy pop hits of 2019.

Blame It on Your Love is a dancehall influenced song sprinkled with some EDM love, bringing along all the swagger Charli is known for.

Shake It is essentially the fiercest posse cut of 2019, featuring Big Freedia, Cupcakke, Brooke Candy and Pabllo Vittar. It’s an eclectic mix of thumping beats, hip hop swagger, a primal like hook and stellar contributions from every artist.

Charli is at the height of her powers at the moment, and this album is the perfect way to enter a whole new decade of forward thinking pop music.
