10 Best William DuVall Era Alice In Chains Songs
5. Acid Bubble
This is quite possibly the heaviest Alice in Chains have ever sounded across all iterations of the band.
This nearly seven minute monolith of metal is a song of two halves. This is partly a haunting ballad performed at a steady pace. It typifies Alice in Chains' modern take on quieter, steady moments of their music. As we approach the chorus the drums speed up, Jerry and William wail painfully giving way to a mighty chorus section.
All of a sudden we're presented with a crushing guitar riff which Tony Iommi himself would be jealous of. In an instant, Acid Bubble changes and replaces it's melancholic march with a pummelling, sludge-inspired B section. As the end of the song draws near, this chorus intensifies and crescendos in a wall of heavy guitar and angst-ridden vocals.
There isn't anything quite like this in the Alice in Chains back catalogue. The band have been intense but never to this degree and they will perhaps never quite match it again. Its a shame Acid Bubble never became a setlist mainstay.
