10 Best William DuVall Era Alice In Chains Songs
4. Rainier Fog
From their latest album comes the title track, Rainier Fog. The song defines Alice in Chains modern tendency to leave behind the Black Sabbath and embrace different influences.
The charging guitar riff is energetic and its hard not to tap your foot to the beat. As if the infectious guitar wasn't enough, William DuVall's vocal hook is simply outstanding and guaranteed to be stuck in your head some time after listening. Contrasting the more fun vibe of the song is a middle section featuring Jerry Cantrell vocals which are seemingly dedicated to the memory of their fallen bandmates. Layne Staley and Mike Starr, who passed away in 2002 and 2011 respectively, are justifiably eulogised here once more.
This is the triumphant sound of a band who have a strong sense of identity. They're amazingly skilled at expressing morose subject matter. Equally, the band can take on a more upbeat sound with conviction and sound as good as ever in doing so.
