10 Biggest Album Disasters Of All Time

1. Never Let Me Down - David Bowie

The idea of David Bowie selling out for any reason feels wrong. Since the Thin White Duke was never known to stay in one musical lane at the best of times, he was always bound to cross paths with the mainstream eventually. Though Let's Dance still felt like a true Bowie pastiche of pop music, Never Let Me Down marks the absolute nadir of his catalog.

Produced in what he would later call his Phil Collins years, this is one of the most blatant attempts at crossing over that Bowie had ever undertaken. Working with an accompanying tour to promote, these songs feel like a product of their time in the absolute worst way, as most of the snare sounds feel dry and compressed to hell whenever you listen to it. While still working with luminaries like Iggy Pop to write some of the songs, the execution of them feel lifeless when put up next to something like Ziggy Stardust or Station to Station.

Although Bowie's estate has tried to remedy the production issues ever since with different remixes, the sad fact is that these songs are just subpar when compared to the classics that we've gotten used to over the years. Whereas Bowie was always a little left of center for the rock world, Never Let Me Down marked the moment where he reached a little too far into sell out territory.
