10 Biggest Album Flops In Rock History
8. Don't Look Back - Boston
Most rock fans had never heard anything like the first Boston record when it first came across radio stations around the world. Done almost entirely in guitarist Tom Scholz's basement, this one record became the template for what modern rock would sound like, from the punchy guitars to the layers upon layers of harmony that gelled together perfectly.
For an album that was that huge, you might want to play it safe from the follow-up, but maybe not as safe as Don't Look Back.
From the opening song alone, I assume these rockers from Beantown want you to forget that there first record even happened, as most of the tracks on here sound the exact same. Whether it's the singles or the deep cuts, these songs don't really sound thought out so much as they are just copy and pasted onto a different piece of tape.
It stings even more when the band members themselves have fessed up to their lazy followup. According to the band, the entire reason they called the album Don't Look Back was a tongue-in-cheek joke to the fans to ignore the amazing record that had come before. These tracks may be solid for what they are, but when your new album just makes you want to listen to another album, you've got a big dud on your hands.
