10 Biggest Band Blowups In Hard Rock
5. Joey & Johnny Ramone - Ramones
The Ramones were one of the most compact ensembles to ever hit the New York scene in the 70's. Whereas most bands were a bunch of friends jamming riffs together, the tenacity of these guys gave off the impression of a street gang playing rock and roll. However, despite their stage monikers and song title, the band was anything but a happy family.
Though the band had varied viewpoints on things like politics and religion, things got a little too close for comfort between Joey and Johnny Ramone. While the band was going strong in the 70's, Joey's personal life started to fall apart once he learned that his girlfriend Linda was having an affair....WITH JOHNNY. Aside from being heartbroken, Joey felt especially betrayed that his bandmate would have "stolen" his girlfriend like that.
This has led to speculation that the song "The KKK Took My Baby Away" was written by Joey as an attack on Johnny because of his actions. The animosity was so strong that for a fairly lengthy stretch, Joey and Johnny did not speak more than two words to each other unless it was time to play a show. They may have been a street gang on the stage, but these rabid dogs were more of a danger to themselves than their competition.
