10 Biggest Geniuses In Rock And Roll

7. Danny Carey

When it comes to the typical roles in the band, the drummer is normally thought of to be the least necessary. I mean, unless your name is John Bonham or Ringo Starr, most of the people behind the kit don't really get as much time in the public eye. However, Danny Carey proved that when you're so damn good at your craft, the public eye actually comes to you.

Ever since joining Tool, Carey has always been pivotal in making some of the most complex moments in modern metal. Across albums like Lateralus, the drums are a masterclass in what you can do with heavy percussion, as he goes between tribal drumming, metal crunch, and tender moments while also keeping track of various time signature going in and out of sync with each other. This also took on a whole new meaning live, with Carey turning his studio sound into a virtual endurance test, giving even greats like Bonham a run for his money.

Even when Tool returned after a long hiatus with Fear Inoculum, Carey hadn't lost an ounce of shimmer on his trademark style, with tracks that flowed together just as well as it did in the old days. For any other aspiring drummers looking to improve their game, this is where those tireless workouts really pay off.
