10 Biggest Hard Rock & Metal Gigs Of All Time
9. Pearl Jam At Pinkpop - 1992
At the beginning of the '90s, grunge music was just starting to infiltrate the mainstream rock culture. Though bands like Guns N Roses and Mr. Big were still causing a stir on rock radio, the entire musical landscape was about to be shaken by the tidal wave of music from the Pacific Northwest. Many great bands from the scene had impressive live shows, but Pearl Jam's appearance at Pinkpop showed everything great about the scene.
Comprising of a set mostly of material from the band's debut album Ten, the gig is one of Pearl Jam's greatest, with Eddie Vedder delivering the performance of a lifetime. Aside from the music, Vedder uses the stage as an opportunity to pull off daring feats of brilliance from climbing into the rafters to jumping into the crowd like a feral animal.
The songs are also amazing, running the gamut from ballads like "Black" to the steady groove of "Even Flow" to a cover of Neil Young's "Rockin in the Free World." There may have been many eclectic sounds coming from the Seattle scene, but this one performance contains everything you could ask for from a grunge band, from hardcore punk aggression to the rootsy sounds of classic rock.
