10 Biggest Mistakes In Rock Music History
6. Good Riddance - Green Day
And now we get to one of the most notorious screw ups in recent memory. But c'mon? When you look at punk rock music on its own, it's almost expected that you'll have a few songs that are a bit rough around the edges from time to time. Once Green Day decided to strip things down for their graduation song staple, Billie Joe Armstrong got caught in the trap that curses every guitarist to this day.
After running through the song Good Riddance with the full band, producer Rob Cavallo was convinced that it wasn't working and suggested that Billie just play the song on his acoustic guitar by himself. And it worked on the first take...it just took Mr. Armstrong a second to get his bearings. Playing the track back, the song actually starts with a few strings being plucked before you hear Billie cursing at himself and then eventually starting the song.
Since this song has a certain picking style to it, Billie has said that those false starts were the result of him picking the wrong note to start the song and then eventually just rolling with it once he had it under his fingers. Considering this is one of the first and only songs that any joker with a guitar pulls out at a party, it's always a great deal of satisfaction once you get past the amateur hour intro.
