10 Biggest Sophomore Slumps In Music History

1. Blue - Third Eye Blind

After the '90s alternative wave got a lot less depressing, Third Eye Blind seemed to be one of the next great forerunners of the genre. Though songs like Semi Charmed Life and Jumper could get a little bit morbid for your average rock fan, the tunes always held up as great pieces of California sunshine that was sorely lacking from rock radio. Once Blue happened though, it all seemed to be going downhill.

Then again, not many of the Third Eye Blind trademarks have gone anywhere, with most of these songs feeling like the same kind of open hearted rock music we got used to. There are even some genuinely interesting moments, like the ballad Deep Inside of You and the opening heaviness of Wounded. That's the thing though...it's good...but Third Eye Blind needed great to remain relevant.

Without any song like Jumper on the record, this was the start of their long slide out of the realm of radio rock, instead becoming just a music nerd band that pops up every now and again. It's almost a shame too, considering their next album Out of the Vein became one of the best albums they had ever made up to that point. As far as the charts were concerned though, Third Eye Blind will still be living in the shadow of Semi Charmed Life until their final hours.
