10 Biggest Unsolved Mysteries In Rock Music History
4. Talk Tonight Girl
Some of the most important people that have come and gone in rock and roll don’t necessarily have to even play instruments. Although the people that get the acclaim usually find themselves playing onstage, there are many people that help make that happen, from producers behind the scenes to the managers that keep the machine rolling. Sometimes they’re just normal people, and someone in San Francisco is responsible for saving Britpop single handedly.
During the promotional tour cycle for Definitely Maybe, Oasis came to the US and played a now disastrous gig at the Whisky a Go Go, after which Noel Gallagher left in a huff and didn’t return to the band for several days. Camping out in San Francisco, Noel eventually reconnected with an old flame that he had met when they played there a few weeks before.
As he started to chill out and contemplated breaking up the band, it was this mystery girl that convinced him to stay the course, knowing that it was more important to keep the band going than to become a solo artist out of the blue. To this day, Noel says that he can barely even picture what the girl looks like, seeing her more like a vision that was telling him to follow his destiny as one of the greatest rock stars of his generation. We did get a bit of an explanation from Noel in song though, with Talk Tonight being about those few days when she convinced him to turn things around. She may have saved his life, now if only he could remember her name.
