10 Biggest WTF Moments In 2010s Rock

3. The Death Of Paul Gray

We've entered the sad portion of this list now, so if you don't feel like reading anything too heavy today, then please skip ahead to the final entry.

Paul Gray wasn't just the bass player for heavy metal ensemble Slipknot, he was their main songwriter and one of its co-founders. He was a key part of one of the biggest metal acts of all time, which is why his death on the 24th May 2010 at the age of 38 hit the community like a wrecking ball.

Gray's body was found in a hotel in Urbandale, Iowa, next to a hypodermic needle and an assortment of pills. An autopsy revealed that Gray had died of an overdose of morphine and fentanyl; a fate that has befallen so many others in rock music's past.

This sudden and tragic lost very nearly resulted in the end of Slipknot altogether, as Corey Taylor repeatedly stated he was unsure about wanting to carry on.

However, the band did survive this horrible event and have paid many a tribute to Gray over the years for all the amazing work he did during his all-too-brief time on this Earth.
