10 Biggest WTF Moments In '90s Rock Music
2. Freddie’s Final Day
Freddie Mercury was a dynamo.
A bombastic ball of energy, the Queen frontman elevated the band beyond just another rock group with his over-the-top performances, respect for the finer arts, and his heavenly singing voice.
He lived life to the full, which makes even sadder than he died so young.
On 23rd November 1991, Mercury issued a statement that sent chills down the spines of his adoring public. He announced that he was HIV positive and had AIDS. He had been living with the disease for some time, but had chosen to keep his health condition private for the sake of himself and his loved ones.
Fans were still reeling from this news when, just 24 hours later, another statement was made.
Mercury had passed away, at the age of just 45.
The emotional rollercoaster of the star's last two days must have been unbearable. However, it was quite fitting that a man who lived life on his own terms almost seemed to have some sort of control over his own death.
Much like with Kurt, Freddie left far too big a mark on history to ever be forgotten.
Rest in peace to two of the all-time greats.
