10 Blatantly Unfinished Rock Albums (That Were Released Anyway)
8. Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk - Jeff Buckley
There are a million different circumstances for why people decide not to release some of their best songs. Whether it's because things are too personal or legal trouble, there's no way that we can count on our favorite artists to make another masterpiece time and time again. In the worst cases, mortality ends up getting in the way.
After setting the music world on fire off of the strength of his album Grace, Jeff Buckley was starting to cut the demos for his follow up album when he drowned in a river in 1997. While most people thought that would be the end to his story, his estate actually managed to throw together another album's worth of material, showcasing what Jeff had been working on up until the night that he passed away.
And considering this was just the demo versions of these songs, they still sound pretty great. Although some of the tracks do end up popping up in different versions throughout the album, there are songs like Vancouver that sound like they were close to done. Compared to what he was doing on his first record, this could have been the more mature follow up that could have set the world on fire yet again. Instead, we were just left with the ghost of Jeff and a faint reminder of what could have been.
