10 Bold Predictions For Heavy Metal In 2018

7. Carcass Will Release Their Seventh Album

Quite possibly the UK’s best death metal band (fight me, scrub), the heavy metal world is long overdue a new Carcass album. As of 2018, it’s been five years since the stalwarts’ last disc, the beloved Surgical Steel, and a full quarter-century since they arguably invented melodic death metal on their magnum opus, Heartwork. And guess what: it’s happening!

In a November 2017 interview, guitarist Bill Steer outlined Carcass’s impending, album-orientated future:

there is a plan of a kind – purely in terms of working on material. […] there have been times when Dan [Wilding, drummer] and myself have got together and worked on a bunch of tunes, and lately Jeff [Walker, singer/bassist]’s started to get involved. So it’s kind of entered the second phase.

Bill has also offered some description of what the album is going to sound like, saying that there will be elements that Carcass has never experimented before included on their upcoming record.

Overall, then, a new album is a pretty damn promising concept so far. As long as it still provides the same guttural, macabre deathliness and heavy-yet-harmonic guitars that this quartet have become infamous for, they can’t go that far wrong, right?
