10 Breakout Indie-Rock Stars Of 2019's Summer Festival Season

2. Jade Bird

In a modern rock scene that can get a bit stale at times, Jade Bird has been a breath of fresh air. Taking her cues from old-school Americana, she has transformed it into something quite special, blending together country, rock and pop flawlessly in her self-titled first album that came out back in April.

In her debut, Bird easily transitions from barnburners like Uh Huh, Love Has All Been Done Before and Lottery to the quieter, moving ballads 17 and Does Anybody Know. What really carries it through is her powerhouse, gravelly vocals; effortlessly busting out gigantic notes for the acoustic guitar-led anthems before digging deep emotionally with a surprising level of vulnerability.

Her summer only got better from there. With standout performances at TRNSMT, Neighbourhood Weekender and Lollapalooza, she topped them all with a remarkable set at Glastonbury.

While across the pond, she also shared the stage with music icon Sheryl Crow during AmericanaFest, and is now a planning a UK tour followed by European dates either side of the new year. Off the back of such a great 2019 so far, she is definitely primed to become one of the biggest female voices in modern rock.
