10 Brilliant Cover Versions Of Classic Songs

2. Primus - Golden Ticket

Originally recorded for: Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971)

Primus are probably best known for writing the South Park theme and singing about big brown beavers. In 2014 they surprised everyone by releasing an album reinterpreting the soundtrack from the 1971 Gene Wilder classic Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. It’s creepy, unsettling, hilarious, confusing and at times difficult to sit through. Much like the movie then.

One track, in particular, stands out from the pack and that’s Golden Ticket. It drains all of the joyous ecstasy out of the original song and turns it into a skulking monster born from a hallucinogenic fever dream. The grinding, rumbling bass line and vibrating off-key guitars are bizarre yet unbelievably moreish.

The entire album is definitely worth a listen but Golden Ticket is the most successful song on there.
