10 Catchiest Rock Songs That Suck

1. Rockstar – Nickelback (2005)

Statistically, you'd think there would be enough superficial pop-rock songs to eliminate the need to feature Nickelback twice in this list. But the fact of the matter is, they are the kings of writing dreadful songs, that as a species, we cant help but lap up.

When you make mention of this song, a collective shudder works its way around the room. But if you're sitting there pretending you never joined in with the chorus, or paid the 79p to download it from iTunes, then you're lying to yourself.

Featuring spoken-word parts from Billy Gibbons, and lyrics that celebrated all the vacuous toxicities of celebrity lifestyles, it felt more like a "Weird Al" Yankovic number then a serious rock tune. If sung by anyone else, this track might have been interpreted as an ironic take on societies infatuation with celebrity culture, but irony seems to be a concept lost on Chad Kroeger.

With this song, Nickelback became a parody of themselves, but despite that, Rockstar became the biggest selling rock single of the 21st century. With that knowledge alone, it's fair to say, the human race is doomed.
