Ultra-quick, ultra-talented guitarist Vinnie Vincent is no stranger to Glam Metal, serving as the lead guitarist for KISS on their album Lick It Up. But it wasn't until he'd left the legendary New York four-piece that he truly found his flat-out hair Metal potential, forming a Shred band called Vinnie Vincent Invasion; they released their self titled debut album in 1986. Vinnie's guitar work on the album speaks for itself: it is technical, complex, and incredibly quick.

With that being said, the album is far from perfect, and its most prominent imperfection comes in the form of the song "No Substitute", with a vocal introduction so horribly cringe-worthy that it grates you like nails on a chalkboard.

The rest of the song just comes across as lecherous, as the woman in question is obviously not interested, yet the obsession grows as the song progresses. What was meant to be a pleasant love song, ends up being sleazy stalker-anthem, with the line "love is waiting for you" carrying some unintentionally sinister connotations.

It is a certainly a must-skip song when listening to the album in its entirety, but honestly, if you do insist on listening to any song from it, this should definitely be the album’s opening track Boyz Are Gonna Rock, because it only goes downhill from there.
