10 Classic Albums That Are Criminally Short
7. Pink Moon - Nick Drake
For all of the great folk music that was coming out in the wake of the early '70s, Nick Drake is one of those few names that seems to get lost in the shuffle. Though he may have seen a fair bit of success on the charts, there's no one really willing to put him on the same level as the James Taylors and Neil Youngs of the world as far as acoustic based music is concerned. With only a handful of albums to his name though, Pink Moon may be the decade's first true stroke of folk genius.
Granted, this is not the most optimistic of records to start out with though. Released shortly after Drake checked himself into a mental hospital, you can hear his struggle on full display throughout many of the lyrics on here. You wouldn't know it for just hearing the music though, with his open tuning and serene voice making you feel at peace whenever one of these songs comes on.
Drake didn't get the chance to see the afterglow of his success though, passing away in the months that followed this albums' release after his mental demons got the better of him. Still, if there were any justice in the world, this would be on par with the likes of Bob Dylan's greatest work as an example of how to make the acoustic realm of rock and roll work.
